JOANNA PUCHALA
REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST
I’m a human first and a psychotherapist second. I offer you my humanity, not my perfection. I know therapy works—because I’ve lived it too. Support from others, whether it comes from family, friends, community, or a therapist, is as vital to the brain as glucose and oxygen. We’re wired for connection from the beginning, and none of us are meant to go it alone. If we didn’t need each other, we’d all be living on our own mountaintops.
A big part of my work is helping clients strengthen their relationships—with themselves and with others. Until that foundation feels solid, I see my role as scaffolding: steady, supportive, and temporary. And I’m honored to be just that.

MY APPROACH
What does it mean to be a human in the 21st century? While the reasons for seeking therapy haven’t changed much over the last hundred years, the pressures on our attention—and on our nervous systems—are at an all-time high. Technology offers convenience and instant communication, but it can also challenge our capacity for genuine connection, focus, and presence with ourselves and each other.
I work with individuals and couples navigating a range of concerns, including relationship challenges, identity shifts, and emotional overwhelm. I bring additional experience in supporting people through the complex transitions of menopause, and in working with those who identify as neurodivergent—including those with ADHD. My approach is grounded in understanding how physiological, relational, and attentional patterns shape our inner world and our connections with others.
My training draws primarily on Psychodynamic Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), grounded in an attachment-based understanding of human needs. I integrate other approaches as needed to support each client’s goals. Whether I’m helping someone make sense of emotional changes related to hormonal shifts, supporting a couple in rebuilding trust, or working with a neurodivergent adult to find more ease and clarity in daily life, I aim to proceed in a way that feels authentic, respectful, and responsive to each person’s unique context.
Whether we work together or not, please know that no matter who you are or what brings you here, you are worthy of care.
SERVICES
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) providing ONLINE and IN-PERSON therapy to couples as well as individuals 18 years and older. In-person sessions are at Chi Bar Acupuncture and Wellness located at 89 Queen Street South (rear side entrance) in Streetsville, Mississauga. I offer a free initial consultation of 25-50 minutes. It allows us to meet and chat a little more about what is bringing you to therapy at this time and ask me any questions about the way I work to see if this will be a good fit.
