JOANNA PUCHALA
Registered Psychotherapist
I am a human first and a psychotherapist second. I offer you my humanity, not my perfection. I know therapy works because I have lived it too. Having social resources, whether from family, friends, community, or a therapist, is just as important to the brain as glucose and oxygen. We all need support from one another otherwise we’d be living on mountain tops alone. Since we are wired for connection from birth, I believe a major part of my work is to support my clients in building strong relationships with themselves and with others. I am but scaffolding until then and happy to be so.
My Approach
What does it mean to be a human in the 21st century? While the reasons for seeking therapy haven’t changed a lot in the last hundred years, the deluge of things that require our attention (or distract our attention thanks to technology) are at an all time high. Technology has brought convenience and easy access to communication but at the same time added more challenge to genuinely connecting with one another and to navigating living in our current times.
I am trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches, with a primary focus on Psychodynamic Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which draws on an attachment-based perspective. I work collaboratively with clients to address current conflicts, explore relational struggles, and support them in building or rebuilding the emotional resilience needed to thrive. My role as a therapist is to listen deeply to my clients’ concerns and, together, establish goals for our sessions. As we progress, I draw on the most suitable techniques to support clients in reaching those goals. I believe in honoring each client’s unique journey and encourage them to explore diverse methods to support their well-being both within and outside of therapy. Our work will proceed in a way and at a pace that feels authentic and supportive to them.
Whether we work together or not, please know that no matter who you are or what brings you here, you are worthy of care.
Services
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) providing ONLINE and IN-PERSON therapy to couples as well as individuals 18 years and older. In-person sessions are at Chi Bar Acupuncture and Wellness located at 89 Queen Street South (rear side entrance) in Streetsville, Mississauga. I offer a free initial consultation of 25-50 minutes. It allows us to meet and chat a little more about what is bringing you to therapy at this time and ask me any questions about the way I work to see if this will be a good fit.
Contact
If you would like to book a consultation, please provide some windows (days and times) of availability for you when you reach out. You can reach me via email or telephone. I wish you well and look forward to hearing from you.
